I always had a dream of painting murals…

…it just seemed so artistic and full of drama. Big images, on big walls, hanging off a ladder with a paintbrush in each hand and one in my mouth. Well, is a bit like that, but here is how it all started.

I started teaching private painting classes to children in my studio. One of my students was a child of a teacher. That teacher invited me to do a lesson in her classroom. That went very well. I realized I had a gift for teaching. I started pursuing more opportunities to be in the classroom. After a lot of work, some training seminars, and lots of experience. I was regularly doing artist-in-resident programs. A teacher said….I want a project with a big impact.

Ta Daa!!

I introduced the idea of collaborating with the students on a mural.

Symphony of the Animals …. 14 feet tall and 28 feet long. Freshwater Elementary School

I teach students drawing and painting lessons with a theme. Then take their artwork and design a mural composed of all their drawings. Some of the murals the students helped me paint. On other murals I did all the painting. There are now over 14 large scale murals in public schools.

The results are fun, whimsical, and last a lifetime.

HOLMES BUILDING SUPPLY MURAL

The latest mural commissioned by the Arts Council of Livingston Parish.

The council commissioned a contemporary mural with references of historical art. I used Kandinsky as a jumping off point. The butterfly was added to create a photo opportunity for visitors.
